A final recap from Switzerland.

Just1, the presenting sponsor of this particular article, continue to break boundaries around the world with their extensive line of race-proven helmets (that have been worn to two world titles in as many years thanks to Tim Gajser) and relatively-new range of goggles. The Just1 ‘Iris’ goggles were built with cutting-edge design, accurate eye-port integration and technical specifications in mind. For more on Just1, click here.

Marvin Musquin has added yet another win to the impressive scorecard that he has compiled across the last two months. The Frenchman, who has not yet tasted victory in the 450SX class in Monster Energy Supercross, has won five main events during the off-season and stood on the podium nine times. Another victory on the final night in Geneva has ensured that he will be riding a wave of momentum into Angel Stadium next month.

This was exactly what onlookers expected, of course, as Musquin showed great speed on the first night and overcame adversity to dominate proceedings. The second and final night in the Palexpo was much less eventful, as he avoided first lap mishaps to complete a perfect weekend. Musquin made his intentions quite clear in the heat, as he holeshot and established a lead of eighteen seconds over Justin Barcia. Justin Brayton proved that he could contend with the favourite for the ‘King of Geneva’ title though, as he won the second heat and recorded similar lap times.

Those two ended up being the stars in the main event, as they led the field through turn one and immediately pulled away. Brayton took the holeshot and stayed out front for six of the sixteen laps, but eventually succumbed to the countless advances that Musquin made. It initially seemed that Musquin was set to make a move before the whoops, as he slid around the inside and jumped through the section. Brayton assessed the situation after two laps, however, and switched to the line in an attempt to keep ‘25’ at bay.

Musquin eventually made a move at the start of the long rhythm section and cut across Brayton immediately, to ensure that he would not be able to retaliate. He cut over so drastically that he ran off the track and almost cost himself a shot at the victory, but he managed to re-join the race in the next turn and avoid any penalties. The duel for the win ended at that point, so the focus then shifted to the battle for third.

Malcolm Stewart and Barcia had been going at it for quite some time and even slammed each other on a handful of occasions. Stewart refused to back down, however, and even controlled the spot in the last turn when the pair ran into each other again. A third in the main event left him on the lowest step of the overall podium too.

The fight for fifth was an intriguing one, as Thomas Ramette and Cedric Soubeyras duked it out for the French SX Tour title. Nine points separated them entering the night show and, despite getting off to a rocky start, Soubeyras did more than enough to win the championship, as he chased his rival across the line in sixth.
